A bit about me....

I grew up on a sheep farm in rural NSW. My Father and Uncle practiced ecological farming, though not organic. Mulesing was never practiced on our farm. I spent my weekends and school holidays doing 'sheep work'. Rounding up sheep and working in the shearing shed as a Rouseabout are some of my best childhood memories.

Like many of us, my Grandmother taught me to knit when I was about 7 years old. I knitted on and off throughout the years but was often dissatisfied with my creations. I learnt to crochet in my 20's, when my partner and I went and worked in a Vineyard during our Uni semester break, and churned out gaudily coloured hats by the bucket-load. But it wasn't until I met my dear friend Kris that the yarn bug was ignited. She inspired me with information and soaker patterns (soakers are woollen pants for cloth nappies). After 6 months of dedicated test knitting and dyeing we opened Monster Knits, a small online store selling soakers, longies and yarn. After about a year our store was going great but we decided to concentrate on our different products, and The Yarn Café was born.

The Yarn Café is home to my inner creative yearnings, of all things colourful and decadent. I love the colours and textures of yarn, the irresistible look and feel of yarn sliding through my fingers as I create. I am thoroughly addicted to both wool and chocolate, and a hot cuppa is never far away! What knitter doesn't love to sit down and relax with some stunning yarn, a hot cuppa and a nibble of your favourite something? The Yarn Cafe is an extension of my love of these luxuries, an online knitting-friendly cafe for yarn lovers.

These days I am a busy Work At Home Mum to two small children. I am involved in a handful of other projects so in between everything else I squeeze in some knitting time. I'm one of those knitters that has project bags hidden all over the place within easy reach! I knit in the car, in the kitchen….. My yarn stash and shop yarn has well and truly taken over our house, to the alternating dismay and amusement of my husband.

I believe in stocking only quality products at The Yarn Cafe. I place a high emphasis on Australian made products and try to source these locally where possible. Organic and fair trade products are very important to me. This is just one way that I reduce my impact on the environment and live ethically, and I encourage you to do the same.
